The founding principles of faith & ideology are recurring themes for the artist. It’s the idea, the conception, the creation of a belief system, the ideology that’s interesting.


‘Beauty & Power’ series.

Hierarchical & authoritarian forms of power & ideology are instant within these mechanical or digital-aesthetic portraitures. Burke investigates the philosophical concerns of Carl Gustav Jung’s ‘Shadow’ & Foucault’s ‘Power-drive’ theories.

The artist culls, edits & manipulates the sourced images, through what he refers to as ‘an age-old generic system of fabrication – through superficial, flawed, puffed-up systems of ideology. All the great movements - politics & democracy, religion & faith, nation & society all use such practices.

‘Resemblance’ series draws on the concepts born from Magritte’s ‘The Key of Dreams’ - that seeing comes before words, and that ‘the way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe.’ John Berger. The series opens discussion on the duality of multiculturalism & religious fundamentalism.
