Oils on Linen

Juxtaposing the familiar aesthetics of Formalism, Hard Edge or Minimalism, with narratives suggestive of Modernist painting practices, the context of this series of paintings are filtered through postmodern rule based methodologies.


Colours are rendered from nature. Titles taken from location. Elements are selected using a geometric grid-like algorithm. Colours only appear once. Colour conversations within the pattern structures explore positive & negative spaces - ‘Belief is built around what is not visible, the empty fragments between what is visible’. The painted areas on the 2:1 stretched, fine linen surfaces, remain within a standard photographic ratio of 4:3, offering up a window.
